IN MEMORIAM: BRUNO PIAZZA, ICON INSPIRATION AND FOUNDER
Monday, 14 November 2011 00:00
ICON's inspiration and co-founder passed away on the 28th of October 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. During the two years since Bruno's illness was diagnosed, he had very little time to devote to ICON Asian Arts, and the gallery as well as our websites experienced a period of relative silence. Bruno hoped that everything he created and the collections he gathered during his life would continue to live on after he was gone. They will. Be ready for a rejuvenated and refreshed ICON Asian Arts to appear as 2012 unfolds. To read more about the life and death of Bruno Piazza click here.

ICON is the first in Indonesia to offer this landmark volume on the ancestral arts of Indonesia, Life, Death & Magic, by Robyn Maxwell (left, with tau tau memorial effigy from Toraja). The book was prepared for an exhibition of the same name which opened in August 2010 at the National Gallery of Australia. As she did with Indonesian textiles, here Maxwell puts the artefacts of the archipelago in context, discussing them in relation to several salient themes which unify and distinguish the region's ancestral arts.Rp 660,000 with complementary durable cordura ICON Asian Arts tote bag.
